06-05-07 Road America Track day
We just got back from testing at
Road America to get ready for July races. Steve ran a best of 1.28.9
that is fast enough to qualify for AMA Supersport or
Superstock. We are hoping that with some engine tuning and a few
corrections that we will be able to run consistantly in the
1.25s... Plus a few great pics from gron4....
01-30-07 RACING NUMBERS
Steve will run number
33 in WERA, ASRA and
CCS.
11-25-06 IN HOUSE PHOTOGRAHPY
We have added in house
photography to help sponsor with digital imaging. With outside
support hit or miss we now have the capability to do all imaging in
house.. So posters, ads and marketing support can be included in all
sponsorship packages with no royalties or additional
fees...
10-28-06 DYNO As Steve guessed the full system gave us a few more HP
on top and tons more mid range. Most of the map canges were in the
mid-range with a peak power of 138.. not bad for a stock
motor....
10-12-06 DYNO Racing
is over but the work is just starting.. We dropped the bike off at
ACTION POWERSPORTS to remap the power
comander to the new head pipe from MICRON... we can't wait to see the results.
10-11-06 GINGERMAN CCS Back to
Gingerman, we finally have the bike put back together and thanks to
ANNITORI DISTRIBUTING for providing us
with a HYPERPRO steering dampener at the
last minute. We are glad to make the last race to make sure that the
bike is ok for next year and to get Steve some track time. In the
first race Steve gets the hole shot but pulls 2 huge wheelies off
the line and still gets up to 4th and finishes 3rd nice…. “I wanted
to get the jump off the line to try to pass the front row but didn’t
expect the bike to wheelie like that, it felt like my 1000” said
Steve.” I almost fell off the bike, that pipe is making a ton more
power.” Race 2 we had to start on the last row and once again Steve
gets a good start but pulls a big wheelie off the line and starts to
work his way through the pack but after a few laps starts to spin
the rear tire and drops back… “After the first lap I thought we were
going to get another good finish I would work my way next to them
mid turn, hit the gas and just pull past them but after a few laps
my tire was junk” said Steve.. Now we have to run 2 more races on
that tire so we make some adjustments to the bike to make it
drivable just to finish out the day… It was a good day now we go
back and get the bike ready for next year…….
08-15-06 GINGERMAN CCS
Days before the race we decide to borrow a bike
and race the Gingerman CCS race. We show up on Sunday put on new
rubber and hit the track. Steve comes in and we determine that the
bike has all stock suspension. Stock suspension and a borrowed bike
are not a good combination so we decide just to turn laps and get
what we can get. In the first race Steve gets the hole shot and
comes out of turn 2 in third and holds on for a few laps but drops
back to finish 6th. But, during the race the storm clouds roll in
and just after the race starts to rain hard. Meanwhile back in the
pits Steve’s mom is holding on to the E Z up for dear life as wind
pulled out all the stakes and is trying to send it into the next
county. So with the rain ends our day of racing but we get a season
best finish of 6th not bad on a stock bike.
07-28-06
MICRON We get the MICRON head pipe for our exhaust. This pipe is
super clean and super light and no seams, that hydroforming is cool,
we can’t wait to see how it works….
07-18-06 GRATTAN WERA
NATIONAL Ready or not here we come. We get to
Grattan on Friday for practice and qualifying and this track is a
roller coaster, every hill has a turn and every turn has a hill.
This is not the kind of track you try to learn in one day but, here
we go. After the first two practice sessions we are in trouble,
Steve ran a best of 1:41 and the fast guys are running 1:25s not
good, that's why we wanted to race here 2 weeks ago. " This track is
tricky with all the elevation changes but, we came here to race and
that's what I'm gonna do" said a determined Driver. And that's what
we did every lap in the after noon was faster and faster and we got
down to the 1:28 range and Steve was holding his own on most of the
track but, we still had some trouble areas that were just killing
us... We come back Sunday for racing. We make a few adjustments for
quicker steering and adjust the map for more top end. Steve heads
out for morning practice and take a few laps to get back to the 1:28
range and than crashes in turn 11 just before the straight. We get
the bike back to our pit area and it is too tore up to race and we
have to call it a day. "I'm not mad just frustrated this is the best
week end I've had this year and this is our first time at a very
hard track. I just ran that tire too long. All the adjustments we
made worked perfect and I'm just disappointed that we don't get to
race " Steve said. So now we have to fix the bike and our next
big race is Autobahn south CCS/ASRA see you there....
07-10-06 DYNO TESTING
We finally get the bike to the dyno at Action
Powersports to set up the map. Having a proper map gave us 9hp on
the top end and up to 15hp in the mid range with a top horse power
of 134 so far and that's with just a slip on exhaust.
07-05-06 WERA RACE LICENSE
Steve can't get #33 for WERA because some guy on a yellow
bike named Tray Batey has that number, Steve's race number for WERA
will be 933.
07-03-06 GRATTAN WERA.............
Due to work schedule we have a late start leaving
for the race and at the last minute the bike won't start and we
can't get it going. SO we must apologize to everyone for missing
that event. We can't print any of Steve's quotes from this very
disappointing weekend. Now we head to the WERA national at Grattan
with no testing. See you there in 2 weeks.......
06-20-06 AUTOBAHN
TESTING....... Now we are getting ready, power
commander with a quick map, Micron pipe and quick shifter. This
turns out to be a great test. "Now I know how those guys get so
fast. Just click, click, click and wait for the turn, it almost too
easy." Steve said after getting the quick shifter to work with the
new software. Now we are ready to race just a few minor pieces
remaining to finish the bike. See you at Grattan. Our favorite quote
of the weekend was "Is that a 1000?" we will take that as a
compliment, thanks Micron.
06-01-06 MICRON Great
day Micron USA is our exhaust sponsor for 2006. We are very excited
because we know that Micron exhaust make awesome power all the way
through the power range... www.micronexhaust.com We are getting the
all new GP system.
05-30-06 AUTOBAHN WERA NATIONAL
Rain, rain, and more rain. So we show up on Sunday
for track time, pass tech and sign up for our WERA race license.
Everything goes good and with a power commander installed and proper
gearing the bike definitely has power now. "Once you get the bike
past 12000rpm it will tear your head off, it doesn't feel any slower
than the 1000." a much happier Steve said. We run out the weekend
and finish with a best of 10 and survived the rain.
04-30-06 ROAD AMERICA
CCS/ASRA A new year, a new bike and a
new class what could be better? We finished the bike at noon
Wednesday and we leave Thursday morning not bad. We don't have rear
sets, exhaust, or a power commander but, chassis and bodywork are
complete. Thursday practice goes good the bike feels good and our
base line is almost spot on. The only tire truck in the pits was the
Michelin tire guy so we give them a try. The Michelin tires work
very good, hold up very well and last much longer than the tires we
ran last year. The first problem we have is the low rear sets, so we
are short on ground clearance. Friday, after the first race we find
out we are way down on power, in fact we can barely hang on to race
preped 600cc bikes this turns out to be a huge problem. Good news is
this is the bike to use for deep braking. " I feel I can out brake
anyone, if I had more ground clearance I might be able to make up
for the low HP." Steve said. After Friday and Saturday we realize
that there is nothing we can do for the motor until we get a power
commander and the are on national back order. "The motor feels
like it has a restrictor plate on it, as soon as I hit third gear
everyone drives by, There's nothing I can do." We are summarizing
what Steve said. Steve had some amazing starts running third off the
line but before he could make it to turn one he would already be in
the back of the pack so the weekend went. We finished the weekend
with a best finish of 10th not bad but, don't tell that to Steve.
See you at Autobahn..........
04-04-06 OUR NEW BIKE IS
IN.........We pick up the new bike April 4th, and
put on some street miles to break in the motor and for pre race
conditioning and then to the shop for tear down.
03-31-06 Well here we
are at the end of March and our bike is due to come in in 2 weeks
and exhaust is 3 weeks away and we race in 3 weeks, we are going to
be busy. We have most of the parts we need to race and are just
waiting for some of the last pieces so we can go racing.
02-15-06 Steve will have the same
numbers for 2006 in expert class. 33 for CCS and 133 for
ASRA.
01-20-06 Baker Race
Gear in WI will do our chassis set up for
2006. Brian knows how to set up a bike and does a great job we
look forward to working with him again this year....
01-05-06 Steve will
make the move to expert for 2006. "This a big move for me but, I'm
not afraid of a challenge. I was struggling with the liter bike in a
lot of the slower turns. The new bike will solve a lot of my problem
areas I had on the last bike and we will start with a really good
base line set up, this will allow me to focus more on racing and
less on the bike." Steve said.
11-17-05 We will race
the all new 2006 GSXR 750 for 2006. Steve is very excited " I can't
wait to drive into the corner and back it in with the new slipper
clutch. I love the liter bikes but, they just are not suited for
some of the smaller tracks we run and the 750 is a do it all bike,
good power for the big tracks and awesome handling for the small
tracks. I love high corner speed and the new bike will be much
easier to drive into the corner ( my problem area with the liter
bike.)"
11-16-05
ACTION POWER SPORTS in
Waukesha, WI will be our power sports Sponsor for 2006. These guys
are awesome they are into all types of power sports and have an
excellent service department and dyno facility.
11-15-05 We
achieved our goal of finishing with 2 top 5 in final points. See the
results page for all final points.
10-20-05 GINGERMAN
Sorry for the delayed entry.. This is one of our
favorite tracks. Gingerman is a double points race so we will run
Unlimited Superbike to steel some extra points. We also added a lap
timer to run more consistent laps. Our goal is to get a good start
and run solid laps. Starting the day with 40 degrees and a wet track
we don't get any hot laps in for practice so we will once again use
our first race to get up to speed. In Unlimited Superbike We get a
good start but, come out of turn 2 in fourth and after a mistake
filled race we finish 9th but, those were our first laps at speed
for the weekend. Now Steve remembers how to get around the track. In
Unlimited GP we get the holeshot and come out of turn 2 in 3rd and
hold on for the first lap and we run faster and faster every lap
but, we slip back inch by inch to 12th in the hardest fought battle
of the year. Slamming the door shut, plowing the front end bottoming
out the forks and the last last lap is the fastest of the day so
far...and just 12th... And we thought we would just collect some
easy points in the last race of the year... Wrong. In
Unlimited Superbike Steve gets the holeshot again (if we could
finish every race at turn one we would almost never loose) but comes
out of turn two in 3rd we run our fastest lap of the day of 1:32 but
still finish 11th. Not the day of racing we had in mind but we
learned some more about how to improve the bike for next year and we
locked in our points standing for the series. See you next
year..............
10-04-05 Our newest member
joins the race team Mycron III lap timer, life is so much
easier.
10-03-05 We only need
to enter and finish our races at Gingerman to lock up 2 top 5 in
points, right on track.
10-2-05 BLACKHAWK FARMS
We think it is going to rain, and does it ever. By 10:00 we
decide to go to full rain setup, a good decision. So now we are
in survive the weekend and maximize points mode.. So we decide to
run Unlimited Superbike to steal some points so we can sneak into
the top 10 in this class ( this is a double points race). We run
Unlimited Superbike and finish 10th. Next we run Unlimited GP
and on the first lap of the race it starts to down pour
like a monsoon just rolled into town but, Steve is wearing a lightly
tinted visor and with the rain and spray off the other
bikes can't see past the bike in front of him, he decides to
stay out and we still finish 9th. Steve said" I knew it was raining
hard when after 1 turn my feet were completely soaked and could only
see 20 feet in front of me. I figured I'd just follow the person in
front of me the best I can." We also run Unlimited Supersport and
finished 9th. We survived the weekend and only one more race to lock
in our top 5 finishes.
9-22-05 AUTOBAHN SOUTH
We are back at Autobahn, this time we run the south
track and it is a 3day National event with both CCS and Formula USA.
Friday we run GTO and Unlimited Supersport. First we run GTO for
bike set up. Steve gets a good start and feels good so he stays out
to finish 10th not bad for our first race. In supersport we get a
bad start and finish 7th. Saturday we only have one race, Unlimited
Superbike. Before the race our tire warmer breaks and we have to
bungie it to keep it on the tire. In the race we get a bad start and
get stuck in the pack and with a cold tire we just can't get past
the pack and after avoiding a few crashes we still finish 10th. On
Sunday we only have one race at 4pm only 26 hours after our last
race. In the last race we nail a perfect holeshot and led half of
the first lap until the first hard braking zone and after a few
mistakes fall into a 3 way battle for 7th. On the last lap in the
last braking zone we win the 3 way braking contests but were pushed
all way into the marbles and loose traction and have to go into the
grass and finish 9th. A fun week end of racing I hope we come back
here next year. See you at blackhawk...
9-4-05 BLACKHAWK Back
to Blackhawk and our number one goal is to fix the the braking
chatter that cost us a few positions at Gingerman. The second goal
to finish both races. Well we fixed the braking chatter and now
we can lift the rear wheel under braking. "It's hard to turn
with the wheel in the air" Steve said after brake testing. After a
few adjustments the bike is working great, no chatter, better rear
grip, good turning but, we are still running slow here. Steve does
have to adjust to the new set up and he thinks at autobahn will show
we have the best set up yet. Steve commented on the new set
up " I can turn in good and the rear grip feels good, I can't
wait to get on a wider track and put the hammer down. This set up
compromises turn in a little bit but I hope it will be more balanced
and give us lower lap times." So the bike is ready to go but we are
not up to speed. In both races we get a good start coming out of
turn 2 in 3rd but, we can't hold on and finish 17th and 11th. With
the bike ready to go we can't wait to get to Autobahn and put in
some good finishes, see you there....
8-7-05
GINGERMAN We like this track. We go to
Gingerman for the first time and can only race on Sunday. No
pressure but, Steve's family will be coming to watch for the first
time and his mom thinks motorcycles are too dangerous and has never
been to the races. So Steve wants to finish good, has to learn the
track and can't crash. We get one practice and it goes ok but not up
to race pace yet. so we sign up for GTO a 25min race to use for
practice. We get new rubber and the tire guy doesn't have any med
rears so we have to run the hard, damb. For the first race we have
to start from the back but the holeshot king drives past the field
to come out of turn two in fifth and runs there for a few laps and
finished 8th. "The track is tricky but it's very fun!" said Steve.
Our braking problem still persist but Steve didn't want to
experiment today so we just did minor changes for the track. Race 2
we get a good start and ran 4th most the race and finished
6th. The third race Steve wants to push but doesn't get the
holeshot and enters turn two in 3rd and has a false
neutral and the engine stalls, by time Steve gets the bike running
we are in last place, damb the luck form 3rd to last in one turn.
After a few off pace laps we finish 17th, what are you gonna do.
Can't wait to get back. Next back to Blackhawk.
7-29-05 BLACKHAWK Why
we are still struggling here is starting to become very annoying.
Steve says" How can learn a new track in 12 laps and have relearn
this track every time we come here?" Steve disappointment was very
apparent as he struggled through an off weekend. We start the
weekend with our proven bike setup from a few weeks ago and head out
to practice. With an oil slick in turn 3 Steve did a best lap of
1.23 but we were on old tires. We put on new rubber and switch to a
med rear. Wow the rear stuck for the first time all year now Steve
could drive off the turn on the rear tire. (Dunlop users avoid the
hard rear at all cost.) But after running a full hard practice we
turned a best of 1.21, not good and now the bike picked up a front
end chatter and we can't brake deep any more. In the first race as
usual Steve gets a good start but keeps loosing spots lap after lap
to finish 14th our worst race finish this season. When Steve asked a
fellow racer how everyone was running so hard he said " Well you
were running kind of slow." Not what we wanted to here but the
truth, so knowing he was having an off weekend now Steve had to use
strategy to get a good finish. Get a good start, run as hard as you
can, protect the inside, and it worked. In the second race we get a
good start and come out turn one in 3rd and are going for
second but had to settle in for third and ran there for 3
laps before 2 bikes out brake us in turn one. After hitting the
rumble strips and driving through the grass Steve comes back to
finish 5th the best all year. See you at Gingerman.
7-20-05
AUTOBAHN Another great weekend of racing, we
love Autobahn Country Club. This weekend we raced at Autobahn for
the first time and unfortunately we could only race on Sunday so we
only had one 8 lap practice Sunday morning. After the first practice
we were running 1.13 consistently but still not up to race pace we
will have to use the first race for additional practice. After
a perfect start we enter turn one in first but misjudge turn two and
come out in third and turn by turn fall back to 9th before we get up
to speed. Then we had a false neutral and we loose one more spot and
finish 10th. In the next race we get a good start but pull a huge
wheelie and have to enter turn one in third but come out of turn two
in third very good start after a few laps we settle into fifth place
and start to work on gaining some spots back but, we had 4 more
false neutrals and fall back to finish 12th. A very disappointing
finish but a good day over all we can't wait to come back.
6-14-05 We are a
third of the way through the season and we are 2nd in points in
Unlimited GP and 5th in points in Unlimited
Supersport................
5-28-05 BLACKHAWK
Back to Blackhawk. We want to finish the bike set up
this week end so we are ready for Autobhan country club. To
start off the weather is so, so 50 some degrees and overcast. But
the new fork set up is simply amazing, the bike will know run
any line we want and we can pass anywhere we want on the track
high, low, wide or tight, WOW. After the first practice
the forks were completely bottoming out, not a problem a few quick
adjustment and we have perfect compression on the front end. The
control and feel under braking and turn in is just perfect. The
bike is working just great, unfortunately we have to start in the
back of the grid. Now the fun starts we only have one set of rims
and 45 min before the first race it just starts to sprinkle. It's
not that bad we decide to stick with the DOTs. 8 minutes to go, now
it's raining and no time to change tires. After a slow start Steve
clears the first turn almost mid pack and after the first lap he is
running 4th and is still charging hard. During the
third lap he passes for second and decides to close the gap to first
and spins the rear off turn 5 and has a high side that sends him and
the bike into the gravel. Damb racing sucks... After a ride in the
ambulance Steve is ok and we pack up for home.. After an hour and
talking to fellow racers Steve decides he wants to run the last
race. So we frantically begin to repair the bike and change to rain
tires. We get the bike ready just in time to start the race.
Starting last on the grid and using some caution Steve finishes 10th
and we get some decent points... See you at Autobhan.
5-11-05 BLACKHAWK At
the last minute we decided to run the first race at Blackhawk to get
in more practice and points. The weather was perfect 75 degrees and
sunny. I was glad we came to knock some more of that rust off.
We made further chassis adjustments to improve on the
Road America set up and the bike is getting real close to
perfect in fact the rear feels great but, the front is a little
stiff so we will have to change to lighter springs. In the first
practice the new Dunlop rear tire was rubbing on the swing arm so we
had to go back to the Road America gear. The second practice was
real good running faster every lap with a best of 1:20 flat in
traffic at a 90% pace, ready to race, not. By this time we had about
60 laps on the tires and they had enough. So by the first
race the tires just gave a little every lap and we had to push
hard to stay in the 1:22 range but, we still finished 6th. the next
race forget it, after a huge holeshot we could still barley hold on
to 10th place. Having a budget sucks. The next race is Blackhawk
5-31 see you there with new rubber.
4-28-05 ROAD
AMERICA. Another April at road America another
30 degree adventure. This year we arrived at the track at 7:00am to
a balmy 31 degrees but, at least it was not raining. Practice
consisted of running until your hands are frozen ( about 3 laps )
and pulling in to warm up. It was a good weekend of racing
unfortunately we did not get our opening day victory. We had a best
finish of 7th and got a lot of good track time and some solid
points. ( and we survived the cold track again) The next race is at
blackhawk 5-31 see you there.
